The SEC has alleged that Canyon Creek Financial and other broker-dealers violated the securities laws by selling investments in retirement homes to be developed and managed by Sunwest Management, Inc. and Canyon Creek Development, Inc. Canyon Creek and Sunwest allegedly misrepresented the nature of the investments, and operated what the SEC describes as a "Ponzi" scheme which bilked investors of over $300 million.
